A dealer-issued battery grade has the same credibility problem as a dealer-issued appraisal: the grader profits from the grade. Buyers know this.
An OEM readout has a different limitation. It reports what the manufacturer's own system chooses to surface.

The First Seven Years Do Most of the Work
Median SOH drops roughly 15 points between a near-new EV and a 6 to 7 year old one, then largely flattens [2]. That drift is normal and mostly benign.

An 8 to 10 year old EV in our data holds a median SOH of 82.3%, nearly identical to the 6 to 7 year band [2]. Older EVs are not unsellable, and most pass testing.
But the spread around those medians widens with age, and the certificate is what tells you which side of the spread a specific car sits on.

Independence of the Tester
The certifying party should be an EV battery testing company with no position in the transaction. If the entity grading the battery also profits from the sale, it is a sales document, not a certificate.
VIN-Specific, Live Data
A real certificate is generated from a live read of that vehicle's battery management system, tied to the VIN and dated. Model-level averages, dashboard range estimates, and app screenshots do not qualify.
