The condition report does not cover the pack

Standard condition reports were built around body, paint, tires, and mechanical items you can see and touch. None of that framework describes battery capacity or cell balance, which on an EV is where most of the value and nearly all of the downside sits. A green light condition report on an EV tells you the car looks good. It does not tell you the car is good.

A short drive proves nothing

A car with a developing cell imbalance drives normally in the lane and normally on the way back to the lot. The battery management system's job is to keep it that way for as long as possible. The failure mode is silent until it is not, and by then you have already paid, transported, and possibly reconditioned the car.

Build a Pre-Bid Routine

The same capacity figure means different things depending on what is inside the pack. Build your maximum around the reasonable spread of battery outcomes for that model, year and mileage rather than the best case, and let a strong post-purchase result be upside rather than a requirement.

Test on arrival, before anything else happens to the car

This is the single habit that separates dealers who get burned from dealers who do not. The car lands and it gets tested before recon, before detail, before photos, before it touches the front line. A red light discovered on day one is an arbitration case. The same red light discovered three weeks later, after you have spent money on the car, is a loss you absorb.

Every auction sets a window for raising a claim, and it is short. Testing on arrival is what keeps you inside it. A dated, VIN specific report generated the day the car arrived is a far stronger position than a description of a problem you noticed later, and it moves the conversation from opinion to documentation.

Document even when you keep the car

Not every flagged car goes back. Sometimes the right answer is to keep it, price it as wholesale, and disclose the condition fully to the next buyer. That path only works cleanly if you have the report. Selling a known issue with documentation is a business decision. Selling one without is a complaint waiting to happen.
